Yuan and her brother Bin live together in Marseille. Both work as waiters and long for a different life. Given their situation, Yuan is thinking about returning to China.
Brother and sister Bin and Yuan share a small three-room flat in Marseille with their father. They barely see each other because they work constantly and on different shifts. The flat is their retreat, a place where they can rest and recuperate. Here they can connect online with their friends and play computer games. Now, though, Yuan is considering returning to China. The question: What does Marseille mean to her and would she be happier back home?
WANG YU (born 1996 in China) is a filmmaker who has been based in France since 2018. Following her previous film studies in Beijing and Taipei, she is currently developing a personal body of work between France and China. Her film Under One Roof premiered at Visions du Réel 2023.
