Чорнобиль 22 Chornobyl 22 | Ukraine | 2023 | 20’

A collage of footage captured by a brave informant and the chilling testimonies of nuclear plant workers as they navigate the horrors of war and the haunting specter of a potential global catastrophe.

In early 2022, during the Russian occupation of the Chernobyl exclusion zone, a local informant undertakes a covert mission to document Russian troops. Within this tense environment, echoes from the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station reverberate as firsthand accounts of the military takeover emerge. The specter of nuclear terror resurfaces, the shadows of past disaster dovetailing with the immediacy of the present conflict. This is a chilling lens through which to view the Russian invasion of Ukraine, where history converges with contemporary turmoil. The mosaic-like structure of the narrative, imbued with tangible levels of tension, serves as a testament to the enduring repercussions of human action on a global scale. It underscores how widespread access to technology and the Internet shapes the dynamics of information exchange and control.
